"Milgee"
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and chapan, Mildred Eleanor Munroe, at the age of 71. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the McGillivary Care Home in Opaskwayak Cree Nation.
Mom was born on Monday, July 12, 1954, in Cedar Lake, Manitoba. Her parents, Ellen and Adolphus George, raised her in Chemoineek. After the 1964 flood, the family moved to Easterville, where she spent the rest of her life. She was united in marriage to Henry Gordon Munroe in Norway House on October 10, 1980. Together, they had three sons: Henry Jr. (Margie), Conway (Dawn), and Waylon (Martina). Because of their big hearts, they also raised Ray George (Cheryl), Kirby Colomb (Kim), Martin Captain (Elizabeth), Shiana Chadney (Aaron), and Josephine Munroe (whom they adopted).
Milgee worked various jobs throughout her life. She served as a constable, a night watchman at Frontier School, night watchman at GGMC, a postmaster, a carpenter helping build the band office, a teacher's aide at EJ Johnson, and a cashier at Long Point. She was also our coach, where she established the Chemawawin Hawks. She organized our fundraising efforts and took us to many hockey tournaments. She also led a square-dancing team that won numerous competitions throughout Manitoba. OID was the highlight of our competitive season, where we were often the fan favorites. Her team was invited to many reserves to give demonstrations and take part in social gatherings, and this is how we raised much of our money. Mom was a friendly, easy-going, and humorous person.
She always kept her door open to the youth in our community. Our home was a welcoming place where our friends loved to spend time.Koukom enjoyed traveling before her health declined. She visited Minneapolis to see Benny Hinn and went to Dallas to attend The Potter's House. She also traveled with friends to the “Women Thou Art Loosed” conference, driving through New Orleans, Houston, and Atlanta, and she often mentioned that the highlight of her travels was visiting Graceland.
Mom always enjoyed our visits to the care home. She loved asking for her favorite, KFC, a steeped tea from Tim Hortons, or a plain cheeseburger from McDonald's. Whenever she had a craving, she would call Waylon Jr., and he never hesitated. He would show up with a smile and a surprise, happy to bring her whatever she wanted.
When she grew sick, she often called out for our dad, believing he was still with us. She wanted him to come take care of her, just like he always had. Sometimes she would ask us to go pick him up, thinking he was wandering around in The Pas. Those moments were painful for us, because we didn't know how to gently tell her that he was gone. They are reunited now no more pain, no more sorrow, no more loneliness.
Milgee is survived by her sons Henry Jr (Margie), Conway (Dawn), Waylon (Martina), daughter Josephine, brother Jacob, Grandchildren; Clinton, Chastin, Branden, Fletcher, Rebecca, Karla, Tricia, Owen, Kayleigh, Brennan, Braeden, Tye, Zoe, Waylon Jr, Tanner, Quinn, Jamee, Nathan Jr, Rayden, Marshall, Alydia, Markus. Chapans, Tyrone, Connelly, Rubina, Brielle, Raquel, Harmony, Brayden, Hanna, Tristan, Trayden, Deshawn, Ezlyn, Claire, Sophia, Chandler, Callum. Nephews, and nieces too numerous to mention.

Appreciation;
Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the entire team at McGillvary Care Home for the compassion, dignity, and comfort you provided to our mom. A special thank-you to Karen and Russell Chartier, and to Barbara and Murray Campbell, for being there in our time of need. Your support carried us more than you know.
We are also deeply grateful to her dear friends at the care home Priscilla and Ruth for sitting with Mom and offering her companionship when she needed someone by her side. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
You Meant So Much
By: Cassie Mitchell
You meant so much to all of us
You were special and that's no lie
You brightened up the darkest day
And the cloudiest sky
Your smile alone warmed hearts
Your laugh was like music to hear
I would give absolutely anything
To have you well and standing near
Not a second passes
When you're not on our minds
Your love we will never forget
The hurt will ease in time
Many tears I have seen and cried
They have all poured out like rain
I know that you are happy now
And no longer in any pain.
