With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad, papa, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend, Gordon Samuel George. Dad left this world on August 24, at the age of 74 with his family by his side.
In his final moments, Mom laid beside him and told him how much she loved him and that she would meet him again in Heaven. Shortly after, he took his final breath and peacefully passed away. He looked so calm and at peace.
Our dad was born on August 4, 1952, in The Pas to Alice and Gordon George Sr. After the passing of his mother, he was raised by his grandpa Robert Mink at the Old Post, also known as Cheemoineek until the relocation in 1964 to the new settlement known as Chemawawin. Dad served his community as Chief for several years, then as a councillor.
Dad was also a fisherman, welfare administrator, and sat on the school board committee. Dad met the love of his life in 1992, and for 34 wonderful years, they shared a life filled with love, laughter and countless cherished memories. Together, they enjoyed travelling and discovering new places, creating memories that will be treasured forever. Dad started up his own personal taxi business known as Sam's Taxi. He never missed a trip, even during the worst snowstorms that would always worry us, but would call our mom and tell her “The eagle has landed” to assure her he made it to his destination safely. Mom and Dad also opened their hearts and home to many children through foster care over the years, providing them with love, comfort, and a safe place to call home.
Dad had a love for playing Texas Hold'Em and even had the unforgettable experience of playing alongside actor Richard Gere in Las Vegas. We loved hearing his stories about his travels, the places he visited, and the many people he met throughout his life.
Dad was a humble and humorous person who could always bring a smile to those around him, no matter the circumstances. He had a playful spirit and loved to joke around, always ready with a silly saying, or a lighthearted tease just to make us laugh. Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father papa, and grandpa. He was the anchor of our family – a steady presence who used his humor to brighten hard days and make ordinary moments unforgettable.
In his earlier years, Dad was an avid churchgoer gifted with spiritual eyes - often sharing wondrous memories of seeing tall, radiant angels present during worship. Though life's journey brought different seasons, his spiritual foundation remained strong. On July 26th, 2026, Dad rededicated his life to Jesus, embracing his faith with a renewed spirit and peace. We take deep comfort in knowing that he is now resting in the presence of the Lord, surrounded by the heavenly peace he once glimpsed on earth.
Dad cherished every moment he spent with his grandchildren and truly loved being surrounded by them. He enjoyed their laughter, their stories, and simply having them close by. He loved giving each of them their own special nicknames, which reflected the unique bond he shared with each child. Family gatherings and special occasions were especially meaningful to him when all his grandchildren could be together around him. His grandchildren were a very special part of his life.
His wife, daughters, and grandchildren will miss him more than words can express. His absence will leave an emptiness in our hearts that can never be filled. We will miss his love, his laughter, his presence, and all the special moments we shared with him. Though our hearts are broken, we will hold on to the beautiful memories he gave us and carry his love with us always. We love you dad, and we will miss you so much. You will forever remain in our hearts.
