Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Band Hall, Skownan, Manitoba

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Bernard Catcheway of Skownan First Nation on July 13, 2026 at the age of 75 years.

Bernard leaves to mourn his sons, Bernard Jr. and Kesis Catcheway; a daughter he took as his own,  Melanie Campbell; his siblings, Camille Catcheway (Doreen), Marcel Catcheway, Victor Catcheway, Johnny Catcheway (Barbara) and Esther Catcheway (Marvin); special niece, Adeline Nepinak (Richard); special nephew, Franklin Catcheway; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Bernard was predeceased by his father, Joseph and mother, Nora; his siblings, Melva Nepinak, Marvin J. Catcheway; Doreen Catcheway, Marie Catcheway, Arnold Catcheway and Paul Catcheway; niece, Cheryl; nephew, Tyson; as well as numerous other relatives.

Bernard was born in Winnipegosis, and grew up in Skownan. Bernard served as Chief of Skownan First Nation from 1999 - 2003. He was a strong advocate for his people, a respected Elder and leader, and someone who cared deeply for his community. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed.
